Summer Assignments and Supply List
READING WITH YOUR CHILDREN
Committing your child to reading, even just a little each day is very important in developing life long reading habits. Choose books that you can read together! Read picture books and short stories. Try to include books with unforgettable characters. Learning to read takes time and practice. Loving to read takes enthusiasm. Read with your child on a regular basis to create a sense of wonder and enjoyment. It will foster creative thinking skills, and provide for him/her to grow and develop mentally. It will give your child an appreciation and respect for books. It's important to set an example by reading yourself.
Reading Tips
*Have your child read along with you.
*Listen carefully and make sure to praise them if he/she can recognize a word.
*Visit the Public Library over the summer. Apply for library card for your child. The Ossining Library offers reading clubs and incentives every summer.
*Review all letter sounds and vowels.
