Math

I know Mrs. Pezzullo had worked very hard on math multiplication facts. I would like you to continue to practice your multiplication facts over the summer. It is important to memorize them. It will make math a lot easier in fourth grade.
Handwriting
This assignment is to practice cursive writing. I would like you to write a friendly letter to me. The letter should be all about you. Tell me about yourself. Do you have any brothers or sisters? Do you play any sports? Did you go away over summer vacation?
Write anything you’d like. The letter should be about three paragraphs. I can’t wait to read them.
Reading Assignment
You are to read two books. One is the required book and the other is from the list of books.
Required Reading is:
Clementine by Sara Pennypacker
Make a book marker for this book. Draw and show an important character, scene, or what you feel is most important. Decorate the marker with glitter, fringe, etc. Use your creativity for this project.
Choose one of these books to read for your second book report.
Elevator Family by Douglas Evans
Fourth Grade Rats by Jerry Spinelli
Help!I’m a Prisoner in the Library by Eth Clifford
Lily’s Crossing by Patricia Reily Giff
Half Magic by Edward Eager
The BFG by Roald Dahl
Poppy’s Return by Avi
The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Catling-average
The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary
Room One by Andrew Clements
And Then What Happened by Jean Fritz
Cockroach Cooties by Laurence Yep
Stone Fox by John R. Gardiner
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume
When you are finished reading the books, I would like you to complete two book reports.
Your book report has to include:
- Cover page; has to include title, author, picture, and your name
- Graphic organizer
- Summary- retelling the story in your own words. Two pages hand written or four pages , double spaced typed. Do not copy from the book.
- Review- How to write the review
A. Paragraph 1- write a short ,condensed paragraph about the book
B. Recommend or not recommend the book
- Back cover.
You may write out the reports ( in cursive and very neatly completed) or type it. Whatever you would like to do will be fine. Have a wonderful summer. I’m looking forward to seeing you in September.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Palombini
